The ski slopes are open!!

Finally the ski hills will re-open this weekend,  Winter is approaching and the forecast is for snowy weather.  To qualify as a typical Banffite you will have to love Winter or move away!

My last guided hike took us last week to Lake Bourgeau and Harvey Pass. We braved the first half meter of snow on our way through the windy corner above Bourgeau Lake. We even saw the first cornice of this Winter. It was still tiny, but on one of my first May trips years ago we were stunned by the wall of snow blocking our way. It was the size of a two storey house. We managed to climb around and marvelled at the prospect of this heap breaking and thundering downhill. We did not want to go on such a wild ride so tiptoed on our way back.

Now, I am going to dust the snowshoes off as many of my guided hikes will take us to the snowy panoramas of this amazing country (that invented Winter as it seems).
